# Tamsulosin ## Overview Tamsulosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, specifically selective for alpha-1A and alpha-1D receptors found in the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, and urethra. ## Primary Indications * Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): To improve the signs and symptoms of BPH. * Ureteral Stones: To facilitate passage of lower ureteral stones (off-label in some regions, but commonly used). ## Adult Dosing * **BPH**: The typical dose is 0.4 mg once daily. If symptoms are not adequately controlled after 2-4 weeks, the dose may be increased to 0.8 mg once daily. Capsules should be taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. * **Ureteral Stones**: Dosing commonly ranges from 0.4 mg to 0.8 mg once daily, often for up to 4 weeks, to aid stone expulsion. ## Pediatric Dosing Tamsulosin is **not indicated** for use in pediatric patients. ## Dose Adjustments
