# Miconazole vaginal pessary
## Overview
Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent used topically to treat fungal infections. The vaginal pessary formulation is designed for local delivery to the vaginal mucosa.
## Primary Indications
Vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infection).
## Adult Dosing
The typical adult dose is one miconazole vaginal pessary inserted into the vagina either once nightly for 7 nights, or as a single 100mg pessary inserted nightly for 3 nights, or a single 200mg pessary inserted nightly for 3 nights, or a single 1200mg pessary inserted as a single dose. Specific dosing regimens depend on the product strength and formulation available, and may follow local protocol.
## Pediatric Dosing
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 12 years have not been established. Dosing for pediatric patients 12 years and older is the same as adult dosing, though use should be guided by clinical judgment and local protocol.
## Dose Adjustments
No dose adjustments are typically required for renal or hepatic impairment due to minimal systemic absorption.
## Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or any component of the formulation.
## Adverse Effects

Complete the full course of therapy as prescribed, even if symptoms improve sooner.
