# Hepamerz (l-Ornithine l-Aspartate)
## Overview
Hepamerz is a combination of the amino acids l-ornithine and l-aspartate. It is used in the management of hyperammonemia associated with liver insufficiency.
## Primary Indications
* Treatment of latent and manifest hepatic encephalopathy.
* Supportive treatment for liver disease.
## Adult Dosing
* **Hepatic Encephalopathy:** Commonly administered intravenously at doses ranging from 10 grams to 30 grams per day, often divided into 2-3 infusions. Typical initial dose is 5 grams infused over 30 minutes. Higher doses may be used in severe cases. Oral formulations are also available, typically 3-6 grams three times daily.
