# Fluids in Pediatrics
## Overview
Fluid therapy in pediatrics requires careful titration based on maintenance needs, ongoing losses, and dehydration deficits. The trend in clinical practice has shifted away from hypotonic maintenance fluids to isotonic solutions (e.g., 0.9% NaCl or Plasmalyte/LR) to prevent hyponatremia.
## Primary Indications
* Maintenance hydration for patients unable to tolerate enteral intake.
* Resuscitation for hypovolemic shock.
* Replacement of ongoing losses (gastrointestinal, renal).
* Correcting electrolyte disturbances.
## Adult Dosing

## Pediatric Dosing

### Maintenance (Holliday-Segar Method)
* **0–10 kg:** 100 mL/kg/day
* **11–20 kg:** 1,000 mL + 50 mL/kg for every kg over 10 kg
