# Chymosin forte
## Overview
Chymosin forte is a combination product containing chymotrypsin and trypsin, which are proteolytic enzymes.
## Primary Indications
* Management of inflammation and swelling associated with soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains, and post-operative conditions.
* Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of edema and inflammation.
## Adult Dosing
The typical adult dose is **1 tablet (containing chymotrypsin and trypsin) orally every 6 hours**. The duration of treatment depends on the clinical response and severity of the condition.
## Pediatric Dosing
Pediatric dosing is not well-established for chymosin forte. Use in pediatric patients should be based on clinical judgment and only when clearly indicated.
## Dose Adjustments
No specific dose adjustments are recommended for renal or hepatic impairment. However, caution and close monitoring are advised in patients with **severe** hepatic or renal dysfunction due to potential accumulation of enzymes or their metabolites.
## Contraindications
* Hypersensitivity to chymotrypsin, trypsin, or any component of the formulation.
* Patients with known coagulation disorders or those taking anticoagulant therapy should be used with caution.
## Adverse Effects
* **Gastrointestinal:** Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort.
* **Allergic Reactions:** Rash, itching, bronchospasm.

## Key Drug Interactions
* **Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin):** Concurrent use may increase the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of INR/PT is recommended.

## Monitoring

* Chymosin forte is intended to reduce inflammation and swelling, not to replace standard treatment for infection or trauma.
* For optimal absorption, tablets should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after meals, unless otherwise directed.
