# Cefixime trihydrate
## Overview
Cefixime trihydrate is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is bactericidal and works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.
## Primary Indications
* Acute otitis media
* Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
* Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
* Pharyngitis/tonsillitis
* Certain types of **uncomplicated gonorrhea** (often as a single dose, consult local guidelines)
## Adult Dosing
* **General:** 400 mg orally once daily, or 200 mg orally
