# Calamine Lotion
## Overview
Calamine lotion is a topical preparation containing zinc oxide and ferric oxide (iron oxide). It is a mild astringent and antipruritic.
## Primary Indications
* Relief of itching and discomfort associated with minor skin irritations, insect bites, sunburn, poison ivy, oak, or sumac.
## Adult Dosing
Apply thinly to the affected area as needed, usually 3-4 times daily.
## Pediatric Dosing
Apply thinly to the affected area as needed, usually 2-3 times daily. Dosing is generally the same as adults unless restricted by product labeling or specific contraindications.
## Dose Adjustments
No dose adjustments are typically necessary.
## Contraindications
* Hypersensitivity to calamine or any component of the preparation.
* Use on broken or severely irritated skin without medical advice.
